This is Alt. Kingston is a personal project. I’m trying to fall back in love with Kingston by seeking out People, Places, Experiences, and Things…Beyond the Typical that are new to me. That’s it.
I’m a city girl. Born and raised in Kingston- Jamaica’s Culture, Entertainment, Sports, Tech, and Food Capital. I travel a lot, especially to New York which is my spirit city. Gotham is Layered. Energetic. Full of Surprises and interesting people and things to do. And I have a community of friends and colleagues in tech there. Many times in the past I’ve complained that Kingston is boring af but honestly, I was just working too much and wasn’t being as social.
But, there has been post-pandemic surge in fresh faces, events, venues, niche activities, products, and services. It is palpable. Add to that a growing expat, hostel, Diaspora returnees, and digital nomad culture, Kingston is fast becoming more cosmopolitan. And I’m here for it.
So this blog is me spending less time being a laptop jockey, paying attention, and playing more out in the wild. It’s my adventure to rediscover my city based on my personal interests.
So I’ll share stuff based on the following
- ListenUP: Tracking some of my favourite music people and scenes.
- Di Bikkle Tings: All about the food and drinks I find and really like.
- KulchaD: Going out to more quirky, bold, niche day and nightlife events that are redefining Kingston
- WellHealed: Discovering the health and wellness products, services, and places that are helping me to keep my mind, body, and energy top tier.
- Sustaanbl: Since climate change is real af, I’m going to share what I learn about some products and practices that are changing how we eat, live, and work sustainably.
And yes all of the pictures and videos will be in black and white. Why? I’m Scorpio. I love black, wear it all the time. Plus it’s also a respite for overworked internet eyes.
How often will I update it ? Weekly or so.
